New Catfishing Book! Out now
At last a comprehensive guide to catfishing in the UK and abroad is available. Written by leading UK catfishing expert Simon Clarke, Catfishing, A Practical Guide, is a top quality hardback book packed with information about location, approach, rigs, method and bait for catfishing. New Catfishing DVD
A new catfishing DVD in the Passport Series; Passport to Catfish: French Rivers, follows the “Day Ticket Duo” Trevor Pritchard and Richard Garner on a trip to the River Saone and Doubs for a week long trip. What tackle do you need?
The tackle you need will depend on where you are fishing and what size the fish run to; however the rigs and methods used are the same and you just scale up to heavier gear if you are tackling bigger moggies abroad.
Rigs and end tackle
Hooks
Catfish-Pro now has 3 ranges of hooks. Eagle Wave hooks are the number one all rounder, for live and deadbaits and other bulky baits, incredibly strong with a wide gape and long point. The new short shank (Boilie/Pellet) BP Special hooks are ideal for boilies and pellets only and have already been adopted by a lot of guiding companies and Spain and have accounted for a lot of very big cats.
The new Catfish-Pro Circles for livebaiting; circle hooks offer a good hook-up rate, but always remember don’t strike when using them, wind into the fish as the hook is designed to flex and take hold and are well worth a place in your tackle box.
 Hooklink
A tough hooklink is essential; Catlink Kevlar is ideal for most rigs in the UK and pretty much all rigs abroad. In breaking strains from 25lbs to 220lbs choose the breaking strain to suit your needs. As well as also being ideal for eels. Perch and Zander, Catlink is also proving a great shock leader material for carping, where you need good abrasion resistance at home and abroad.
New for 2007 – Pikesafe – a soft PVC coated wire for catfish rigs when wire is needed or for any other pike or zander rigs, great value.
New for 2007 Predator-Pro Hooklinks – for fish that bite!
Two new incredible hooklinks an absolute must for predator anglers – both available in a variety of breaking strains.
KevSteelX – Kevlar/Steel hybrid braid – for when you need a supple hooklink but need cut protection – ideal for using if you have pike trouble when you are catfishing or for fishing for Eels, perch, Zander or finicky pike. 49X – The most incredibly supple 49 strand stainless steel wire – that feels like braid! You can knot it, no need for crimps. Being pure wire it is even tougher than KevSteelX

Bait
 Now you’ve got the gear – what about baits?
Basic baits are worms, deadbaits, liver and squid plus livebaits. However also in heavily carp fished waters pellets and boilies can score.
