Whilst this is a technical book on carp fishing and some of the material is quite advanced, it is the author's intention to make sure that the basics are fully covered. He explains why certain types of tackle and equipment should be used and outlines the development of tackle and tactics. The author begins with a brief history of carp angling and includes many of the dramatic changes and events that have shaped the sport into what it is has become today. The section on tackle covers rods, reels, lines, luggage, shelters (including bed chairs and sleeping bags), landing nets, unhooking mats, leaders, leads, lead attachments, hooklinks and hooks,etc. Hooking arrangements, including the use of bottom baits, balance baits and pop-ups are covered as are different variations of the 'hair-rig'. A section on bait covers all the modern dedicated carp baits. On the practical side, the author writes about playing, landing and safe handling of carp from the moment the fish is hooked to its safe return to the water. Included in this chapter is advice on the use of the landing net, weighing and photographing your fish. There is advice on surface fishing including tackle and tecuniqes as well as stalking.
