The belly of the bait contains an optimum number of steel balls to create stability and good running characteristics as well as creating an irresistible underwater vibration field.
It is well established and shown by experimentation that specific sound frequencies are attractive for particular fish and deep, hollow sounds are particularly attractive to big predators. What remains unclear, however, is whether loud or quiet, deep tones catch more.
